Chances are that you have already chosen or own the vehicle you wish to have restored. How do you know if it is a good choice? Many factors affect the overall cost of a vehicle restoration. Condition, age, popularity all will have a direct effect on the cost of the restoration. Here are a few things you want to look for in a good project car.

  A GOOD PROJECT CAR!
  • Little to no rust on vehicle
  • No frame damage
  • Straight or easily repaired body panels
  • Chrome in good condition or easily re-plated
  • Interior in fair condition or easily replaced
  • Running engine and drive train
  • Parts availability
  • Reusable glass or easily replaceable glass
  • Sturdy floorboards
  • Original numbers matching engine, tranny and rear end
  • Rare vehicles are generally worth more
  • Popularity of vehicle

 Things that make a bad project car!
  • Extensive rust damage
  • Any type frame damage
  • Heavily damaged body panels or collision damage
  • Chrome and trim pitted or rusted
  • Interior is moldy, rotten or has rodent damage
  • Un-repairable engine or drive train
  • Parts are hard to find or have to be fabricated
  • No glass or hard to replace
  • Rusted floorboards and trunk floor
  • Non-numbers matching cars carry less value
  • Low popularity vehicle
